EUXGLOB V International Conference: “THE EU AND NATO WORKING TOGETHER: Fighting the war on disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe”

On May 15, 2025 the 5th edition of the EUXGLOB Conference opened with an engaging session in the Robert Schuman Room. The event featured a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Laura Herța, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of European Studies, and messages from H.E. Ramona Chiriac, Head of the Representation of the European Commission to Bucharest, and Prof. Valentin Naumescu, Director of the EUXGLOB Centre. The keynote speeches by Prof. Corneliu Bjola (University of Oxford) on Hybrid Influence Operations and Prof. Daniel Göler (University of Passau) on The White Paper for European Defence offered deep insights into the evolving landscape of European security.
Panel 1 of #EUXGLOBV was a vital conversation on hybrid threats to European democracies, with expert voices from Romania, Moldova, Finland, and Ukraine. Experts have discussed how disinformation, cognitive warfare, and global reactions to (retro)imperial ambitions are shaping Europe’s security landscape.
Panel 2 of #EUXGLOBV – bold voices from Europe and beyond take on the narratives reshaping our region: from far-right “peace” rhetoric and Black Sea disinformation, to Türkiye–EU–NATO friction and the dilemmas facing Frontex. Among speakers were presented: Professor Sergiu Mișcoiu, UBB, A. Murat Tuncer, conșultant, AnkaPedia, Dr. Dorin Popescu, Black Sea Houșe Așșociation Conștanta, Lecturer Ioana Bordeianu, Assoc. prof. Florentina Chirodea, Assoc. prof. Luminița Șoproni, Univerșity of Oradea.
Panel 3 of #EUXGLOBV – was a discussion regarding Disinformation as a Security Challenge for the EU and NATO. The attention was focused on the issues of EU’s security and new geopolitics for the Black Sea. Assoc. Prof. Raluca Moldovan, UBB, Professor Michal Onderco, Erașmuș Univerșity Rotterdam, Dr. Claudia Postelnicescu, Univerșity of Buchareșt/ISDS, Assoc. prof. Serban Văetiși, UBB, Assoc. prof. Natalia Stercul, had a productive conversation. The central question was about fight against disinformation and possibilities for the strengthening resilience and contribution of the civil society to media literacy of the population. Natalia Stercul, Executive Director of the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova participated in the conference as a speaker.
