The College of Europe, Natolin Campus with the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and the Polish American Freedom Foundation are pleased to launch a call for participants for the second edition of the Warsaw Euro-Atlantic Summer Academy (WEASA). The main objectives of the Academy are presenting the political, social and economic foundations of modern democracies in the European Union and the transatlantic community and promoting them in the Eastern European countries.

TOPICS OF THE EDITION: 1. The head of the EU delegation to Chisinau, Pirkka Tapiola, congratulates the Moldovan authorities on the opening of the offices of the Bureau on Migration and Asylum along the river Nistru in a way which takes into account the interests of the Transnistrian population and enables the control of migration on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan șiUkrainian border. 2. Vice-prime minister for Reintegration, Eugen Carpov, says that the new territorial offices will improve the freedom of movement on the Nistru. 3. Opening of the offices of the Bureau on Migration and Asylum along the river Nistru has been severely criticised by Tiraspol. The Tiraspol ex-chief negotiator, Vladimir Iastrebciak, explains the point of view of the representatives of the Transnistrian administration. 4. Nicu Popescu, expert at the European Institute for Security Studies from Paris, analyses why the Tiraspol concerns on the negative impact have no ground.

In securing reliable and high-quality researchers, think tanks compete with much more powerful competitors, i.e. governments, state agencies, private companies, banks, and consulting companies. The regions think tanks, therefore, have to devise special motivation strategies to retain existing staff and attract new talented individuals to opt for this career. Despite being present in the public life, think tanks constitute a small part of civil society and are often not the first choice to fresh graduates who are interested in embarking on research/policy careers.

The Steering Committee of the EaP Civil Society Forum is inviting all interested parties to submit expressions of interest to participate in the fifth meeting of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. The submission of expressions of interest is a necessary step in the selection process to participate in the EaP CSF meeting in Chisinau in 2013.

The aim is to produce six policy analyses that would provide a fair overview and useful policy recommendations on crucial issues of European integration reform agenda, foreign policy and Transnistrian settlement

New EU initiative to fight organised crime and human trafficking at EU borders

A Joint Border Control Operation (JBCO) codenamed PODOLIA recently carried out on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border by the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) has been deemed a success. The results of the operation (conducted at key locations last autumn) were assessed at EUBAM headquarters in Odessa on 22 January by representatives from Interpol, Europol, and EUBAMs partner services in Moldova and Ukraine, an EUBAM press release said.

The Foreign Policy Association of Moldova (Asociația pentru Politică externă) in partnership with the German-Moldovan Forum (Deutsch-Moldauisches Forum e.V.) and the Institute for Eastern Studies in Warsaw (Fundacja Instytut Studiów Wschodnich) organized in Berlin, in the period October 22-23, 2012 the second edition of the EU și Republic of Moldova Forum. Co-organizers of the event were the German și Moldovan Forum in Berlin and the German și Moldovan Forum in Chisinau.

€94 million bilateral support has been allocated by the European Commission for the Republic of Moldova as part of the Annual Action Programme 2012.

It offers new opportunities to finance more projects within the Youth in Action Programme involving organisations and participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
